Request letters are documents highlighting the element of request for something. It is written to inform about the change of information in a document, to request for granting a loan, promotion or refund and to plead for testimonials. Requests are a part of life given the daily hassles we have to face in all the fronts. Without this, our works would have remained either incomplete or substandard. It empowers us to demand explanations for wrongs and to claim justice.

Request letters play a legitimate role in manipulating others for our own interests. Therefore, we become liable to write it correctly and insightfully so that the purpose is served in one go. The first paragraph of the letter should site the reference with respect to which the request is being made. The second paragraph should expand on the requirements so that the request can be processed faster and finally the third paragraph should close the letter by giving the contact information of the writer.

The following points should be borne in mind:

  • The tone of the letter should be self-assured and arresting.
  • The request should be reasonable, direct and clear.
  • It should be succinct yet diplomatic.
  • No thanking-note should be given.
